Senior Interior Designer

Location: The Workroom, Wanaka - September 2026 type: Full time

Do you love interiors, beautiful fabrics and seeing a project come together from the very first idea right through to the final install?

We’re looking for someone creative, organised and hands-on to join our close-knit interiors team in Wanaka.

This is a full-scope interior design role, working across all aspects of design from concept to completion. Our projects are varied and include new builds, renovations, residential interiors, commercial spaces, window treatments, furniture and furnishings, custom pieces, styling and everything in between.

You’ll have the opportunity to be involved in the entire design journey — meeting clients, developing concepts, selecting finishes, sourcing furniture, working with plans, preparing presentations and quotes, coordinating suppliers and trades, through to procurement, installation and those all-important final styling touches.

Alongside our wider interior projects, the role will also have a strong focus on window treatments and custom interior solutions, including curtains, blinds and shutters.

No two days at The Workroom are quite the same. One day you could be on site working through a new build, the next pulling together a full finishes scheme, sourcing furniture for a commercial project, measuring for curtains, preparing a client presentation or getting stuck into a final installation.

If you have a great eye, love the details, enjoy working with people and get a kick out of seeing a project come to life, we’d love to hear from you.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• Managing interior design projects from concept through to completion
• Working across new builds, renovations, residential and commercial projects
• Developing interior concepts, overall design direction and cohesive schemes
• Selecting hard finishes including flooring, tiles, paint, stone, joinery, hardware and more
• Selecting and sourcing furniture, lighting, fabrics, rugs, artwork and accessories
• Working with architectural plans, furniture layouts and spatial planning
• Creating client presentations, mood boards, flat lays and material selections
• Working alongside clients, architects, builders, joiners, trades and suppliers
• Attending site meetings, measures and project consultations
• Managing curtain, blind and shutter projects from measure and design through to quoting, ordering and installation
• Preparing quotes, purchase orders and project documentation
• Managing procurement, ordering, deliveries and installation schedules
• Keeping projects organised, on budget and moving forward
• Sourcing custom and one-off pieces to create interiors with personality
• Assisting with installations, styling and the final layers that bring a space together
• Building strong relationships with clients throughout their project
• Bringing ideas, enthusiasm and plenty of initiative to our interiors team

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF YOU...

• Are genuinely passionate about interior design and creating beautiful spaces
• Have a natural eye for colour, texture, proportion and detail
• Have interior design experience and are confident working across different stages of a project
• Enjoy the creative side of design but are equally comfortable with the organisation and administration required to make it happen
• Have experience with curtains, blinds, shutters or are excited to develop your knowledge in this area
• Are confident working with measurements, quoting, numbers and budgets
• Enjoy dealing with clients and building great relationships
• Can confidently communicate with suppliers, trades, builders and installers
• Are incredibly organised and can keep multiple projects moving at once
• Are practical, positive and happy to jump in wherever needed
• Enjoy working independently while also being part of a small, creative team
• Most importantly, love seeing an idea go from a concept on paper to a beautifully finished space
