A home still dressed for winter tends to sit at odds with that lighter mood outside. In this post, we will discuss five simple ways to bring a Queenstown or Wānaka home into spring, from unwinding winter's heavier textures through to getting a holiday home photo-ready before the summer booking season.
1. Unwind the Winter Layer
Winter styling is about building up. Spring is about taking it back down. Merino throws and heavier quilts can be folded away in favour of lighter linen and cotton, which breathe more easily and photograph more softly. Leave one textured piece in play though, a woven cushion or a single throw draped rather than piled, so the room still feels considered rather than emptied out.
2. Let the Light Lead
Block-out curtains earn their keep in June. By spring, they are working against you. Days lengthen quickly around Lake Wakatipu and Lake Wānaka each spring, and with the milder weather, there is simply more daylight worth letting into a home than there was a month earlier. Swapping heavier curtains for sheer or lightweight linen lets that daylight actually reach the room instead of being shut out by habit.
3. Bring the Outdoors Back In
Decks and gardens do not deserve to sit unused any longer than winter demands. As the weather softens, courtyards, patios, and outdoor entertaining areas earn their place again, and subtle changes like adding an outdoor table setting help a home feel in step with the change of season. 4. Choose Fresh Over Dried
